When assigned to a load verify the load number, the pickup and drop-off locations, the comments, if any, about the load. For example, is the load a “no touch” load. No touch means you as the driver do not have to load or upload the freight.
Make sure to check in with the logistic or dock manager of the shipping facility so you can get a time stamp or so they can record your time just in case the load is late. If the load is late you may receive detention pay.Use extreme caution when driving in the docking area. Speed limit should be 5 mph. After you have safely back your vehicle to the dock, secure the wheels with chock blocks. An another important practice is the arrive to the pickup location at least 30 minutes early so you will have time to check in, position your vehicle at the dock and go over the bill of lading to make sure all is in order. When you arrive at the drop-off continue to practice cautious driving observing a speed limit of 5 mph and be aware of your surroundings. Check your mirrors and look for pedestrians in and around the loading docks. In summary, verify load number, pickup and drop-off locations, remember that detention pay is an option for late loads after your arrival, driving safely to and from the pickup and drop-off locations and in the docking areas. Use chock blocks at docks and remember to remove before departure. If there are any questions please contact dispatch for resolutions to issues that may occur.
